What is Batucada? (The style of drumming)

The origins of Batucada drumming stem from the African cultural influences on the musical landscape of Brazil, where it was common for people to gather around drums to dance and sing in honour and celebration of life. Batucada refers to the formation of a drumming ensemble, sometimes with dancers, singers and other instruments, and often in a street parade. Most commonly playing on a foundation of Samba, the national rhythm of Brazil, and also drawing upon other Afro-Brazilian musical styles such as Samba-Reggae, Maracatu, Ijexa and Maculele, one thing is for sure - when the Batucada starts you can’t help but get swept along in this uplifting celebration of rhythm!

Note: If finances are a barrier, please email info@houseofrhythm.com.au to be considered for a scholarship/financial aid spot/exchange or payment plan.
