Our vision is to share drumming, dance, and rhythm as tools for connection, joy, and empowerment. Through our classes, workshops, and performances, House of Rhythm is on a mission to bring fun, inspiration, connection, and beautiful healing rhythms from Brazil and beyond!
Marina Da Silva
House of Rhythm was founded by Marina Da Silva, a multi-disciplinary artist, performer, and educator whose purpose is to share her passion for music & dance, culture & connection, and health & wellbeing.
Marina is a sought-after drum and dance instructor, workshop facilitator, creative director and performer. She enjoys working with a diverse range of people, including children, seniors, community groups, corporate clients, and artists. Through her workshops, she creates a safe space for diverse people from all walks of life to come together, learn, and feel inspired!
Marina was born to Brazilian parents in a musical household in Sydney. Her extensive training and experience in music, dance, health and wellbeing include the following:
Trained in Capoeira from age 3, an art form that incorporates Afro-Brazilian instruments, song, and a unique martial arts dance.
Worked as a dancer/choreographer/performer for artists, events, and companies throughout Australia, in styles ranging from commercial hip hop to classical ballet, Brazilian samba, contemporary Afro-fusion and more.
Completed the Silvestre Technique dance certification in Salvador, Bahia (north-east Brazil) and trained in Afro-Brazilian drumming, percussion, and music in Brazil’s arts and culture capital.
Trained and performed with percussion legends and leaders in the field, particularly of traditional Afro-Latin rhythms, and performed at events such as Sydney Latin American Festival, Sydney Fringe Festival, Woodford Folk Festival, WOMADelaide, and numerous community events.
Continuous study in a broad range of health and wellness areas including a Bachelor of Health Science in Traditional Chinese Medicine, Holistic Nutrition Health Coaching, BodyMind Coaching, and continuous lifelong study, complementing the way she shares arts and culture with an intention for healing and wellbeing.
Worked with the award-winning drum and dance performance group, Junkyard Beats for the past 8 years, performing and facilitating workshops nationally and internationally for clients such as Sydney Opera House, Ferrari, RedBull, Vivid Sydney, Coca-Cola, Westpac, Sydney Fringe Festival, Planet Ark, and theatres nationwide.
